The Human Body

A personal study project: a growing, inter-linked inventory of subjects covering the human body and how it works. Every subject has its own overview; deeper subjects expand into nested pages.

Roots

  • Foundations — how the body is built up: levels of organization, biomolecules, cells, tissues, and anatomical terminology.
  • Organ Systems — the eleven organ systems, from integumentary to reproductive, including the endocrine hormonal axes.
  • Lifespan — the body across time, from prenatal development through aging.
  • Regulation — homeostasis and cross-system integration: feedback loops and the body’s regulated variables.
  • Heredity — genetics and inheritance (placeholder).
  • The Mind — cognition, emotion, and behavior (placeholder).
  • Microbiome — the human as an ecosystem (placeholder).

How to read this

Start anywhere. Each page lists its constituent parts and links to related subjects, so you can follow the body’s connections rather than reading front to back.
